Stitching Philadelphia’s Story: Textile Artist Ann Babillis at The Okami Collective

Our East Falls community is home to many incredible creators, and one of the most inspiring is Ann Babillis, the textile artist behind Babillis Studios.

I first met Ann back in 2014, when I had the pleasure of helping her find a home at another property I managed. Even then, her warmth, creativity, and artistic vision stood out. Years later, when she relocated to East Falls, we reconnected. During one of our early conversations, Ann mentioned how wonderful it would be to have a creative studio space here, a place where artists could collaborate, create, and inspire one another.

Not long after that conversation, one of our property owners approached me with the idea for what would become The Okami Collective, our own creative hub here at The Preston Falls dedicated to small businesses, startups, and creative studios. The timing felt serendipitous, and I couldn’t help but think back to Ann’s words.

When we opened the Okami Collective, Ann was one of the first to join and establish her studio. From this space she creates handmade quilts, jackets, and textile artworks that reinterpret some of Philadelphia’s vibrant mural culture. By translating monumental public artworks into fabric and stitch, her pieces celebrate the artists who shape our city while highlighting the beauty of slow, traditional craft.

We’re proud to have Babillis Studios as part of our community, and we invite you to experience Ann’s work in person at the upcoming Spring Equinox Art Pop-Up, featuring original works by Ann Babillis.
